A Totally Divine and Relaxed Late Summer Garden Wedding

This wedding is soul food, it’s genuine love, just authentically happy and I cannot stop looking at it. These two are in love and they have done their day with their own rules, throwing a garden party in the back garden of their new home together. It is as near to imperfect perfection as you can get, laid back and simply gorgeous.

Of course a lot of planning and thought goes into a wedding day like theirs and the details are beautiful. Scott and Jo turned their garden into the finest wedding venue, with rows of gorgeous wooden tables and miss matched chairs, crates of summer foliage and home grown flowers, festoon lights, an old chesterfield and vintage lamp stand. A bar with a fine selection of beer steins, vintage tankards and liquor! With a pork pie wedding cake and a fish and chips dinner for guests. They also had a good measure of brave blind faith, which is a sign of true love I think, the no matter what, you’ve got each others back. I get the feeling had it poured with rain, somehow these two would have had just as good a time.

It could of rained, always a risk with any outdoor event, but it was glorious and there was a perfect golden hour captured so brilliantly by Kel and Paul of Paul Joseph Photography, who are going to tell you more about the day;

Gorgeous Garden Wedding

We had the privilege of shooting the Garden Wedding of Jo + Scott in Leicester in September time. We were immensely looking forward to this wedding after having a mammoth 3 hour Skype chat about anything, everything and all things wedding photography related!

Jo and Scott originally planned on hiring a local farmers field and having a wedding tipi reception but about 6 weeks before the wedding they emailed us to let us know that plans had changed. The wedding was no longer going to be held on the farmers field but instead they would be having the wedding reception in their very own gardens of their recently purchased home.

We had never seen Jo and Scott’s house but had heard a lot about it and we just presumed that there would be wedding tipis in their garden. So, the day arrived. I went off to shoot Scott and Paul headed to their house to meet Jo. Shortly after I left, I received a text message from Paul just saying,

‘Keep your fingers crossed for no rain and wait until you see the garden. It looks absolutely amazing’…..and that was that.

I found the message a bit odd to say the least as we have never ever worried about the rain before no matter the location, venue, county or country, to us it really doesn’t matter about the weather as long as our couples and their family are having a great time.

After the beautiful church ceremony in their own village we headed off with Jo and Scott in Jo’s ace decorated Land Rover defender. We headed to their favourite spot in a local woods where we had a giggle, went for a short walk, drank some posh fizz out of enamel camping cups and took some great pictures of the two of them. We then headed back to Jo and Scott’s garden wedding to get the reception under way.

Open Air Garden Wedding Party

When we arrived  at the house and saw the garden, I finally understood what Paul was talking about in his message to me earlier that morning. There were no wedding tipis, no yurts, no sperry tent not even a pop up gazebo! Just the most beautiful garden wedding venue ready and waiting to host Jo, Scott and all their friends and family and it was all going to happen under the open air of their own garden.

Garden Wedding Style

The lawn was filled with trellis tables and mismatched chairs all decorated with their own garden flowers waiting for the guests to sit down to a fish + chip supper delivered to the house in a mobile chippy van. A whiskey bar was waiting to warm the cockles of all those who like a tipple in the cooler evening, the bar looked incredible, the oil drum for people to keep warm off and create a great cosy atmosphere. They even had a dance floor aka their patio which was beautifully lit by dozens of festoon lights.

When chatting to Jo + Scott about how brave they were they told us all about making the decision to switch to a garden wedding. If they had gone with wedding tipis they had to think about toilets, lighting, road space for parking, decoration, someone to look after the dogs, catering and not to mention making sure the farmer was happy with their plans and they felt that it was too overwhelming so, one evening they decided to scrap the tipi idea and have a garden wedding instead and host it all themselves.

They took a big chance with the British weather and it paid off massively. There was no rain, no wind, the weather remained warm all day and we had the most beautiful golden sunset we have ever seen!

Kind Words from Jo and Scott

I’m a big fan of the beautiful wedding photography that Kelly and Paul create and am always delighted to feature them on Adored Bride, this wedding in particular is a real favourite of mine. Jo and Scott were really happy with the images of their day and it’s obvious why;
