When the Heavens Open – Love in the Rain Wedding Editorial

Rain! Boy has it rained some recently! When you are planning a wedding, frantic weather report watching in the run up to the day can become a bit of an obsession and stress. Thing is, truthfully, even with all the best laid plans, the weather will always show up and do exactly what it wants and we have no control over it. You may feel a bit sad about it, if it’s not what you had in mind but rather then let it ruin your day, adapt and embrace it!  I mean really embrace it, dance in the rain, kiss in the rain, get epic photos in the rain, splash in the puddles, seek out the rainbows and own it.

When talented and very lovely Sheena Shahangian Photography got in touch with these beautiful images, I was in love. Real life couple Julia and James are just gorgeous and you can see their love captured by Sheena. It’s such a beautiful outdoor setting with cool California boho vibes. The weather showed up…..so when the heavens opened, they just grabbed an umbrella and each other and embraced it!

This styled shoot was part of the Reset to Rise workshop in Atlanta, Georgia USA. What really drew me to be a part of this shoot was the west coast bohemian California styling, and the hope of combining that style with my darker, moodier brand of photography to create something unique.

The shoot took place at Whittier Mills Park in Atlanta, a historic Atlanta landmark dating back to 1895. The park contains a gorgeous open field along with remnants of the cotton mill that used to sit on the land. With these images, I aimed to capture the mixture of old meets new: the modern boho bride and groom getting married in a location with such a rich local history.

In the middle of the shoot, it began to rain pretty heavily. I absolutely LOVE a good storm so naturally I was very excited to photograph this lovely couple cozying up under an umbrella and really embracing the moment. While this is a styled shoot, these two are married in real life, and you can truly see the love in their eyes as they adventured in the rain with me.
